NSND or (Nista se nece dogoditi – Serbo-Croatian; Nothing will happen – Eng; Ништо нема да се случи – Mac) is a geek/hackers event (see: unconference) where people get together to have fun and share knowledge on variety of technical subjects ranging from programming languages, computer security, networks, operating systems etc.
The main goal is to get the people from the region together so they can get to know each other and maybe continue to collaborate on things that are in both of their common interest afterwards – well that, or just drink beer. Remember: Nothing is supposed to happen and if something good comes out of it – great. We don't worry about agendas up front, no hot hostesses, no cocktails, just a bunch of geeks and hackers trying to have some fun and maybe come up with a revolutionary idea that would help change the world for the better in the process.
Such events have been organized in the past and are still happening but have been held mainly in Croatia and Serbia. The idea to organize such an event in Macedonia (already popular as Duke NSND.mk Forever since it was never supposed to happen ) is a few years old but we finally managed to put things in motion and make this happen this year in the city of Ohrid on the 28th and the 29th of May.
Since I've already visited such events in neighboring Serbia before where only people from the ex-Yugoslav countries attended I thought it would be a good idea to try and contact the communities from all countries surrounding Macedonia and I was really thrilled to see the feedback we got from most of them. Besides the people from Croatia and Serbia, this year we ll be hosting people from the hacker space in Sofia, Bulgaria called Initlab and also some people from Albania and Kosovo. We also contacted the guys from BRMLAB in Prague and hopefully we ll have some of them visit us as well. From Greece I got in touch Kostas Boukovalas who is active in the Thesalloniki hacker space but unfortunately will not be able to join us this time. I really hope that we ll get the opportunity to meet in the near future since it's a shame that we haven't been in touch with the Greek community so far since we're so close geographically – though I'm happy that both me and Kostas agreed that this is something we need to work on.
Anyway, we've already made the necessary accommodation arrangements but if anyone reading this post is interested in coming to the event and needs help with accommodation they can ping me on IRC (arangel @ Freenode) or email/xmpp and I ll do my best to make some additional arrangements.
There are already some 30+ people who announced their presence, and we ll most probably have the whole crew from the Skopje Hacklab KIKA there, so it should be fun!
The agenda is usually being made on the spot on the first day of the event.
You can find some more general info (distances from neighboring capitals, means of transportation, accommodation options etc) on the wiki page dedicated to the event.
Hoping that the gathering will be awesome and that we ll be able to turn this into a tradition and do the same every year from now on.
